The project “Endogenous retroelements as a lifespan axis of motor neuron vulnerability: from neurodevelopment to degeneration in human cortico-spinal assembloids”, led and coordinated by Professor Leonardo Antonio Sechi as Principal Investigator, has ranked first in the LS5 sector (Neuroscience and Disorders of the Nervous System) of the 2026 Projects of Relevant National Interest (PRIN), funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR).

Using an innovative approach, the project aims to clarify the role of endogenous retroelements in neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration. Professor Sechi, a member of our Department, will coordinate a research partnership involving three additional research units from the Universities of Milan, Trento and Pisa, contributing to the advancement of knowledge on the pathophysiology of the nervous system.
