Cortical plasticity plays a key role in supporting cognitive abilities and, in humans, can be investigated using transcranial magnetic stimulation. Until now, however, the scientific literature lacked a reliable measure linking plasticity to cognitive status.

Published in Frontiers in Physiology, this study identifies curve concavity as an effective index for describing plastic changes and for capturing their association with cognitive performance. This measure may serve as a potential biomarker in older adults experiencing cognitive decline.
