[SCIENCE MONDAY] - Consumption of casu axedu, a fermented milk product typical of Sardinia, influences the composition and biological functions of the gut microbiota

The study examined the effects of "casu axedu", a traditional Sardinian fermented milk product, on the gut microbiota of rats. 
Casu axedu was found to promote gut health by significantly impacting microbial metabolism of carbohydrates and amino acids, as well as by reducing bacterial virulence factors and markers of intestinal inflammation.
